Fetching

This weekend I decided to learn how to knit cables. I didn’t want to just learn the technique though, I had to make something in the process. So I chose a pattern called fetching from the online knitting magazine knitty and headed off to the knitting store on Saturday after my long run. By late Sunday afternoon I was the proud owner of a pair of fingerless gloves! Or fingerless mitts, if you’d prefer. I admit they’re a bit of a novelty but I really do think they will be perfect for the upcoming cool Seattle evenings.

    I didn’t know you knit!

I just got the silk to make this knitty bag http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall04/PATTunbiased.html for my aunt for Christmas, and I’m very excited. The silk is stunningly beautiful, so I hope it knits up well!

Margaret McCarthy? Is that you? How are you??

The real question is: how did you manage to take that first picture of both your hands without using your hands to take the picture? I’ve got a mental image of you with a camera squeezed between your chin and neck, twisting around crazily to try to press the button.

Your mental image was half right. I did hold the camera between my chin and neck but I used the 10 second timer so I was able to press the button, position the camera and then pose for the photo. It took about 10 tries to get a shot I was happy with!
