Tentative Summer/Fall Race Schedule

This past Sunday Matt and I woke up at 5am to watch the US Women’s Olympic Marathon Trials online. Then on Monday morning I watched the Boston Marathon on TV before heading into school. I’d been thinking about this for a while but seeing those races tipped the scales for me. I’m really itching to do another marathon.

Realistically, if I’m going to do a marathon in the next year I need to do it this fall. Next spring I anticipate being swamped with trying to finish my dissertation and the job hunt. Plus this fall will very likely be my last in Seattle so if I’m ever going to do the Seattle Marathon this is the year.

I finished the 2007 Ottawa Marathon in 4:25:13. This time around I’d really like to break 4 hours. That means taking 1 minute per mile off my marathon pace. And of course there are those hills in during miles 20-23 of the Seattle course. And the potential for completely horrible November weather! I like to dream big.

So here’s my tentative race schedule. I consider it to be totally non-binding and subject-to-change but it’s my current plan. I may also throw a local 5K or two in there for fun.

  • 10/02/2008 – Love ‘Em or Leave ‘Em 5K – 24:30 (race report)
  • 04/05/2008 – Vancouver Half Marathon – goal <1:50:00
  • 29/06/2008 – Seafair Half Marathon – tentative goal <1:50:00
  • 07/09/2008 – Iron Girl 5K – Allison’s first road race, we’re going at least <30:00
  • 12/10/2008 – Victoria Half Marathon – goal 2:00:00 (tune-up race paced to a 4 hour marathon)
  • 29/11/2008 – Seattle Marathon – goal <4:00:00
